Power Supply: The igniter is connected to a power supply, typically through an electronic control system. When the appliance is turned on or when the heating cycle begins, the control system activates the igniter.


Heat Generation: When the igniter receives power, it heats up rapidly due to its high resistance. The heat generated is intense enough to ignite the pellets in its vicinity.


Ignition: As the igniter heats up, it transfers heat to the nearby pellets. The heat causes the pellets to start releasing volatile gases and eventually reach their ignition temperature.


Combustion Initiation: The volatile gases released from the pellets are flammable. Once these gases reach their ignition temperature, they start to burn and generate a flame.


Flame Spread: The initial flame generated by the ignited gases spreads to the adjacent pellets, causing them to ignite as well. This process continues until the entire fuel bed is burning.

Steady Combustion: Once the combustion process is established and the pellets are burning steadily, the igniter's role diminishes. It may continue to provide some supplemental heat, but the main source of heat shifts to the burning pellets.


Control and Monitoring: Many modern pellet appliances have sophisticated control systems that regulate the ignition process, monitor the combustion, and ensure efficient and safe operation. These controls might adjust the power supplied to the igniter or manage the air supply to the combustion chamber for optimal burning conditions.
